WALKING GRADES

How hard are the walks?

We have walking holidays in Corisca to suit most abilities but it's very important to ensure that you choose the right walk for your level of fitness and your travelling companions. We have four levels from leisurely to tough so its important to check that the daily distances and terrain are within your capabilities, especially with the increased heat in Corsica.

Level 1 - Leisurely

Available to most people who are generally fit and healthy and partake in some fitness throughout their daily life. The walks have three to four hours with lower ascents of between 300-500m per day. You don’t have to be a seasoned hiker and are a great way to introduce you to an active holiday.

Level 2 - Moderate

Suited to those looking for an active holiday, these holidays will have four to five hours of walking every day on paths that don’t present technical difficulties. Ascents look more like 500-700m and are aimed at regular walkers who are fit and healthy and who enjoy regular exercise.

Level 3 - Challenging

To enjoy one of these walks you must be fit and participate fully in sport several times a week and have been on active holidays before. Walks are challenging, between five to seven hours per day on varied and in some parts rough terrain. You must be able to walk on an incline for 600-1000m per day comfortably and at a steady pace. Good stamina is required coupled with the ability to adapt to changing weather conditions.

Level 4 - Tough

The toughest challenge that requires very fit participants in excellent physical condition. Training is needed, to ensure you have stamina to push through for a number of days. Trekking experience is a must as terrain is very challenging with requirements to scramble at parts, with long walks of between six to nine hours per day. Uphill and downhill sections are frequent, with sections up to 1000m in altitude gain on some days. Temperatures and weather conditions with vary severely and backpacks and equipment will need to be carried.
