Why you should travel to Corsica in May

Blog > Why you should travel to Corsica in May

May is a great time of the year for a holiday in Corsica. It's cheaper and quieter and we offer extra savings for holidays booked before 30th September 2018.

Ideal for those who can't wait until the summer to visit beautiful and captivating Corsica, May serves as a wonderful month for holidaying on the island. Whether you want to go away as a couple, with a group of friends or with the entire family, the island is a treasure trove of action, adventure and discovery throughout the month of May.

The island is truly a feast for the eyes at this time of year. Scenic colours fill the landscapes, with snow-capped mountains towering in the distance, above the maquis that carpet the surrounding hills, while wild flowers grow throughout the natural locations of the island. The air is warm, though it isn't too hot, making outdoor exploring one of the best ways to discover the island in May.

The roads are also far quieter during May than in other times of the year, so getting out and about to explore in your hired car is a tantalising prospect. The quieter roads also make cycling a much more enjoyable activity, especially for those into mountain biking who will enjoy some of the most stunning views enjoyed all year from the peaks of inland Corsica.

May is also the cheapest time of year to travel to the island, as well as being perfect for dodging the summer crowds. You'll enjoy greater availability when it comes to flights, accommodation and activities too, so you'll find yourself much less likely to be disappointed by missing out on your favourite villa and flight time, or a seat at your desired eatery.

Walking and driving tours

We think that two of the most rewarding ways to discover Corsica in May is through embarking on one of our walking tours or self-drive touring holidays. The conditions are ideal for both, and they provide a great means of discovering numerous different locations across the island, giving a greater impression of the island's overall character and identity.

We have a number of walking itineraries and sample self-drive routes that you can discover on our website, but we thought we'd showcase two of our favourites below, giving you a flavour of what to expect, as well as some of our favourite places to stay on the island during this month.

Corsican Island Mystery - walking tour

The Corsican Island Mystery walking tour has previously been listed in the Sunday Times 'France - 25 top holidays', and it is easy to see why. The tour provides the perfect combination of coastal scenery and rugged mountains, as well as offering some great accommodation and traditional food along the way.

The tour is an eight-day, seven-night package which involves four days of walking. It is a self-guided walk, incorporating wonderful locations such as Calvi, Evisa and Porto.
