Blog > Summer in Calvi

As one of Corsica's most popular and rewarding holiday destinations, summer in Calvi is a diverse and exciting time to experience for any holidaymaker heading to the Island of Beauty for a dose of sun

Calvi is truly a beautiful place to base yourself during a holiday to Corsica, defined by colourful buildings, striking architecture, inviting eateries, a historic citadel and a beautiful stretch of sandy beach. Whether you visit as a family, a couple or with a group of friends, Calvi also boasts a great range of accommodation options, suitable for all visitors and all providing comfort and convenience.

August is a particularly rewarding time of year to visit Calvi. The weather is fantastic, with temperatures reaching the high-20s and remaining dry, while numerous interesting and memorable events make Calvi even more engaging for visitors. Below are some of our favourite things to do in Calvi in the heart of the summer.

Things to do during summer in Calvi

View the fireworks from Calvi Citadel

Held annually, visitors can enjoy a majestic fireworks, sound and light display, all fired and projected from and onto the city's beautiful citadel. The display is best viewed from the port or the beach, though towards the bottom of this article, you'll find our recommended Calvi accommodation, all from which you can view the display.

Relax on the beach

Extending from the end of the marina, Calvi's beach is a long sweeping band of white sand, blessed by a gently shelving gradient which is ideal for safe swimming and paddling. Backing the beach are a range of eateries, meaning you'll have ample refreshments on hand after time soaking up the sunshine.

Take the train journey along the coast

Authentic and charming, taking the train between Calvi and L’Ile Rousse is a fantastic experience, allowing you to soak up the beauty of this portion of Corsica's coastline, before giving you the chance to explore beautiful L’Ile Rousse.

Watch the boats from the marina

The perfect evening stroll, wander the marina and admire the range of impressive yachts and boats sat in the harbour. The marina is lined with plenty of bars and restaurants, offering the opportunity to sample authentic Corsican cuisine and fresh seafood.

Explore the historic citadel

Originally built in 1268, Calvi's citadel is a maze of narrow streets and towering buildings and landmarks, providing a window back in time. Legend states that Christopher Columbus was born in the town, with the remains of his home to be found on the streets of the citadel, alongside many inviting eateries and souvenir shops.
