Over the last 30 years, we have been privileged to spend much time exploring and discovering Corsica.

Members of our team travel to the island for many reasons; from our product team to source new villas and hotels, reservations so they can make knowledgeable recommendations to our clients, and customer relations to carry out health and safety audits. Many of our staff are also fortunate enough to have holidayed in Corsica too. We spoke to the team to discover more about their personal favourite Corsican places…

 

Bonifacio Harbour

“Earlier this year I was lucky enough to spend my honeymoon in Corsica. The historic town of Bonifacio, in the far south corner of the island, is one of my favourite places without doubt. The citadel built on the narrow peninsula of white limestone, is wonderful to explore and the views along the coast are spectacular. It also overlooks the natural harbour that is now a modern marina, but boats have sheltered here for many centuries.

What I enjoyed most of all though is sitting in a restaurant by the marina, people watching and enjoying a local red wine with a wild boar casserole, or perhaps, moules marinière with a local white.”

The hill-top village of Sant’Antonino

“This picturesque 9^th Century village is one of the most beautiful on the island, perched high above la Balagne coastline with jaw-dropping views from its eagle’s nest position. From here, you can really step back in time and take things at a slower pace and enjoy the food at one of the panoramic restaurants.

If you are a keen walker, one thing I particularly recommend is the route from Algajola to Sant’Antoniono. From there you can continue on to Pigna and Corbara, finishing in L’Ile Rousse. It’s about 15km and takes about 6 hours – a superb way of discovering the villages of la Balagne at your own pace.”

Chez Laurent in Porto Vecchio

“I loved the cobbled streets up on the hill in Porto Vecchio. We had delicious coffee and cake in the main square, and had dinner in a restaurant tucked away in a corner of the old walls. It felt like being in a cave, yet part of the wall was missing, and the views down to the harbour were beautiful, I’ve never been anywhere like it before.”

The beach at Rondinara Bay

“On a recent holiday with my family we all completely fell in love Rondinara Bay, just north of Bonifacio. Since I’ve been back I’ve barely stopped talking about the picture postcard scenery and gorgeous clear, shallow water that was perfect for the children. They spent hours playing in the water. We also discovered a lovely beachside café there and returned a couple of times for lunch. We’d all love to go back one day.”

A Casarella in Pigna

“One of my favourite hill-top villages in la Balagne is Pigna, with its blue shutters and terracotta roofs, it looks so pretty perched on the hilltop.

Explore the narrow, cobbled alleyways and you’ll discover workshops where traditional crafts are made, but my favourite place of all is the little restaurant, A Casarella. It’s a wonderful place for a leisurely lunch, sipping a cool Pietra while admiring the view across the olive groves down to Algajola by the sparkling sea. A simple lunch of wild boar pâté with chestnut flavoured fig jam and a smooth and creamy Corsican sheep’s cheese smothered over crusty bread really hits the spot for me.
I can imagine it’s a beautiful spot from where to watch the sunset.”
