In the heart of this delighful village
Situated high on the Place de l’Eglise, this location is perfect for those looking to immerse themselves in Corsican village life. Surrounded by the locals (the Virorello family live upstairs and are on hand for information should you wish to chat) you will soon absorb the charming, sleepy feel of the village, the bell tolls just adding to the atmosphere. Life revolves around the village shop in the square and the local post office just off one of the cobbled alleyways, and also, later in the day around "Chez Léon" restaurant which is a short stroll from the house. The property is comfortable and well equipped, with a large terrace to the side and a garden overlooking woodland above and the village below. The parking area is a short walk away and access to the house is up a steep cobbled lane. The property is an ideal base for the more active looking to walk or explore the Haute Balagne, with the beaches and L’Ile Rousse just a drive away.

We wouldn't have thought to stay in a village at first but were surprised that the location was so good as we could walk to the local Spar shop for bread for breakfast and a couple of restaurants for our evening meal. We ate out at 'Chez Leon' on a couple of occasions, they have a menu full of local specialities - great food all washed down with a bottle of local red. The village isn't lively but is really pretty.
It is so peaceful that we just relaxed on the terrace for breakfast or a quick aperitif before going out. You have to not mind the passing villagers from your higher vantage point. Madame Virorello lives upstairs but keeps herself out of your way, but you may sometimes see her pottering around her garden or expertly driving her car through the very narrow streets around the village. We didn't try the latter, instead parking the car about 50m from the house. There is a nice beach just a 10 minute drive away at Algajola, where there are a couple of beachside cafes, a pottery and a rather nice ice cream place.
