Why Visit Corsica?

Corsica is our closest Mediterranean island & has something for everyone.

A fantastic climate, activities to suit all tastes, some serious food and wine, plus gently shelving sandy beaches - ideal for families.

Horse Riding in Corsica

Corsica's temperate climate and range of natural habitats provide an ideal environment for horseback riding and there are many opportunities for both novice and experienced riders across the island.

As Corsica is still very unspoilt and largely undeveloped, there are areas of natural beauty which can only be explored by leaving the car behind. There are 1,900 kilometres of bridleways (randonnée équestre) criss-crossing the island giving unrivalled views of the beautiful landscape. Galloping across windswept beaches or riding some of Corsica's hidden pathways have got to be a must for horse lovers.

Escorted treks of differing lengths can be booked ranging from two hours to a whole day or even longer. There are a number of opportunities for horse riding in each of our regions, from rides where you swim with the horses on one of the island's most beautiful and remote beaches of the Balagne, to a trek into the mountains including a picnic lunch near Corté.

Riding schools often advertise beside the roads using the word "ranch" or a picture of a horse. There are riding centres (centre équestres) in Ajaccio, Bastia, Borgo, Bravone, Calvi, La Porta, L'Ile Rousse, Moriani, Oletta, Porticcio, Porto Vecchio, Propriano, Sagone, Sartène, Venaco and Viggianello. Standards are generally very high and horses are in prime condition. When booking a trek don't forget to mention whether or not you are experienced. During the heat of the summer, rides are usually limited to early morning and early evening.

Donkey rides are also popular, for children and parents alike, and these are available from Olmi Cappella in the Guissani or Sant'Antonino in the Balagne.
