Destination Guide

Corsica is situated in the heart of the Mediterranean, 170km off the French coast and 80 kms from Italy.

Corsica has both French and Italian flavours but retains a distinct personality.

Beaches in La Balagne

Calvi

Calvi's beach is a huge sweeping thing of white sand fringed by woods of planted maritime pines and it has something for everyone: it is patrolled by lifeguards in the summer and has a gently shelving gradient that is perfect for all ages, including toddlers; it boasts a fine array of restaurants and cafes nearby - some of which serve directly onto the beach whilst you bask on your sun-lounger; not to mention a diverse range of watersports activities for the more energetic.

Algajola

The beach at Algajola is huge and wide and is close to the village and various cafes and restaurants. It is generally made up of coarse sand although towards the far end nearer Aregno it does become finer. The water is deep here and there can be strong currents so do take care. The weather conditions mean that it's ideal for watersports.

Ile Rousse

This is another town beach, and like Calvi's main beach it can be quite crowded in the summer months - but due to its size, if you're prepared to wander you can generally find a quiet spot. Another benefit of its size is that it is generally patrolled. It's a fine yellow sand beach and the water is a gorgeous clear blue. There are good opportunities here for watersports.

Lumio

The beach at Lumio is small and personal and has stunning views of Calvi Citadel across the bay. There is a small restaurant here that is well worth checking out.
