Charming Castagniccia
Mixing French flavours with Italian warmth, Corsica is blessed with sandy beaches, scenic mountains and unspoilt countryside. It’s a smart choice if you like exploring new places by car, with some good food and wine waiting at the end of the day. Head to the east coast and you’ll find the Costa Verde where long, quiet beaches are flanked by the chestnut-covered hills of the Castagniccia region. Here narrow roads wind inland to tiny villages with Baroque churches, panoramic viewpoints and hiking trails through the forests. Tuck yourself up in a fully modernised rural bolthole such as A Casuccia, a two-bedroom traditional stone house that comes with beamed ceilings, a pool and mountain views – and it’s only a five-minute drive to the golden sands of Moriani Plage.
Corsican Places (corsica.co.uk) offers seven nights in early July at A Casuccia from £830 per person, based on four sharing, including flights from London to Bastia, car hire and a welcome hamper.
