Village Fêtes & Cultural Events

Each year more events are added to the calendar, so this section highlights the most popular. Keep your eyes open for posters or ask the local tourist office for more information.

The fêtes are the highlight of the village social scene and usually all the villagers and their families become involved in the celebrations and welcome visitors to participate and tour their village. There is nearly always an artisan market, with stalls scattered along the narrow streets which provide ideal opportunities to find an unusual gift or trinket to take back home. It is also an excellent opportunity to get a taste of local village hospitality, as there will always be refreshment stalls and places where you can sample some of the local specialities produced in the traditional manner.

Early May

Festimare - Ile Rousse

A celebration of the sea. In addition to fish and seafood produce, there are many activities for children as well as scientific stands, competitions, exhibitions and workshops.

July

Fiera di San Petru - Lumio

A village festival with exhibitions celebrating stonemasonry and stone-related crafts, together with the knives and cutlery still made in the village from iron ore mined on Cap Corse. Mid July.

Foire De L’Olivier - Montegrosso

Around 10,000 visitors honour the olive in a delightful olive grove setting.

Fiera di l’Alivu - Montimaggiore

Exhibitions demonstrating olive production over the years and an artisan market selling refreshments and local produce. Always a great atmosphere in this picturesque village.

August

Foire De L’Amandier - Aregno

Celebrating almonds and almond trees with tastings, painting exhibitions, children’s events and cooking.

Fiera di l’Artigiani - Felicetu

The craftsmen of the Strada di l’Artigiani congregate to celebrate their crafts.

Fiera di u Sumere - Sant’Antonino

Celebrating the donkey, the only form of transport in the cobbled winding streets of this mountain village. Take a donkey ride around the village to view the picturesque surroundings and magnificent views.

Foire De Saint Roch - Renno

The “mountain days” offers a varied programme: films, exhibitions, music, singing, dancing, theatre and debates with writers.

End of October

Festiventu - Calvi

Celebrates everything connected with the wind. There is a mixture of serious and fun events. Concerts every evening have resulted in a cult following.
