Corsican Places believes passionately in sustainable tourism and has been promoting these ethics and encouraging clients to follow suit from the start.

We are proud to have been awarded 5 star Sustainable Tourism status, the highest level possible, by the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO). For more information on our Sustainable Tourism policy, what we do and what you can do to help, please see below.

Code of Conduct for our Customers

All tourism potentially has an environmental, social and economic impact so we ask you to help us negate any detrimental impact your holiday has on the environment. Please take the time to read the comprehensive information contained in our brochure and pre-departure information on the destination, preferably before you go.

AITO - Sustainable Tourism - 5 Star Award

We make a commitment to:

  • protect the environment - its flora, fauna and landscapes
  • respect local cultures - traditions, religions and built heritage
  • benefit local communities - both economically and socially
  • conserve natural resources - from office to destination
  • minimise pollution - through noise, waste disposal and congestion

...and ask you to help:

Respect the Environment

Act responsibly to protect the natural beauty and wildlife of our destinations for future generations to enjoy whilst living in or visiting the country, paying particular attention to local guidelines regarding the building of fires and barbecues.

Respect for Others

Please be aware of a country's religious beliefs and dress appropriately when you are away from the resort areas. Please always ask permission when taking photographs. Respect other guests and locals by keeping noise levels to a minimum at night.

Using Local Restaurants

Our destinations have an excellent selection of good quality restaurants. By eating in local restaurants you are ensuring your visit benefits the wider community

Spend Your Money Wisely

Make sure your money benefits the local people by buying local products and services.

Preserve Energy

Save energy and the environment by turning off lights, air-conditioning and electrical items when not needed.

Preserve Water

Water is often taken for granted in the western world so it’s important to avoid waste, especially in developing countries where water is extremely precious.

Please help preserve supplies by:

  • Only leaving dirty towels and laundry on the floor for washing.
  • Turn off dripping taps.
  • Using a basin of water with a plug rather than a running tap.
  • Having a shower instead of bathing in a full tub.
  • Reporting any leaks immediately.

Endangered and rare species

Corsica is home to several endangered species including the Green-Bodied Corsican Snail, the Bearded Vulture and the Mediterranean Monk Seal. Some of these species' habitats are now protected and monitored but there are guided nature walks and information centres in the natural parks open to visitors.
Poseidonian Oceanic is an underwater green plant endemic to the Mediterranean and often mistaken for seaweed. It forms grassy meadows on the sand creating a home for numerous species of fish seeking shelter so care should be taken when in the ocean.

Natural Parks and Bush Fires

Please respect the flora and fauna when walking in Corsica's natural parks. Fire is one of Corsica's biggest threats, the Corsican maquis (shrubby vegetation found in Mediterranean coastal regions) burns in seconds. Thousands of fires are reported in the forests and the maquis each year, many of which are caused by careless tourists. To keep them to a minimum, island-wide laws are enforced by the local Governments, from summer until 30th September every year. Therefore:

  • Please refrain from smoking as this is a fire hazard
  • No camp fires, barbecues or other outdoor fires are permitted during the summer in forest and the maquis;

Please respect the following rules when walking in one of Corsica’s natural parks:

  • Please dispose of litter carefully
  • Please don't trample the undergrowth
