Corsica has become extremely popular among film directors looking for the ideal background scenery for their Indian movies, and the French island has indeed hosted no less than six Indian filming crews in less than a year, the AFP (Agence France-Presse) has reported.
The crew for Vijay Shankar's new movie "Pon Magal Vandal" have spent two days in Calvi, mainly around Ostriconi beach and the cape of Revellata to shoot important scenes which will be at the core of the entire movie.
Corsican film director Jean-Patrick Costantini has told the AFP: "For them, coming to Corsica costs a fortune. But the dreamlike scenes they film are seen by the Indian audience as the most attractive part of the film, the icing on the cake."
The movie, which translates as "The Return of the Woman in Gold", will be in Tamil and Malayalam languages.
Photography director for the film, Kichas, has also explained that "[in Corsica], contrary to India where one cannot film a sunrise or sunset because of the pollution, the light is pure and the landscapes are truly varied and beautiful, as one can see both snow and sea in less than two hours driving."
