To combine history with adventure, Corsica's capital Ajaccio, home-town of famous Napoleon Bonaparte, organises a special marathon every year called the Napoleon Trail, where organisers wear traditional Napoleonic costumes regardless of the temperature.
Participants can chose between a 23-kilometer run and a 15-kilometer walk above the city of Ajaccio, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and the magnificent Capo di Feno Bay from surroundings hills.
Proceeds from the event will be donated to a Corsican charity for this eighth edition which is scheduled for June, 1st.
The yearly event is organised by the Corsica Run X'Trem club and attracted around 500 people last year.
Beyond the competition, the trail also offers a unique experience for both locals and foreigners to share the beauty of this island, surrounded by the famous Corsican bush, but also cacti, fig trees, and the wide expanse of the Mediterranean Sea from the very beginning of the adventure.
While in Ajaccio, the Fesch museum, the Napoleonic museum, the citadel and Ajaccio's 16th century cathedral are also worth a visit.
