New research has revealed that camping has become increasingly popular in Europe over the last few years.
Nikki Nichol, head of PR at the Caravan Club in the UK, said: "It is the freedom to come and go as you please, and not be tied to a hotel or bed and breakfast, and you also don't have to worry about airport delays."
Mrs Nichol also explained that caravans nowadays offer incredible features from under-floor heating to power showers, as well as fixed beds, full-sized cookers and even flat screen plasma televisions.
In addition, she commented that caravanning can be a cost effective way of going on holiday.
Corsica is among the favourite places in Europe for camping and caravanning as visitors can enjoy a multitude of landscapes from countryside to seaside, to mountains and rural villages. The island is relatively small and the drive along the coast is a very popular ten-day experience.
According to the Insee's figures for 2006, Corsica is the eight most popular camping destination in France among French people, and the sixth most popular for other nationalities.
In 2006, a total of 11,590 nights have been spent in camp sites in Corsica by visitors from the UK.
