The best time to tackle Corsica's most famous multiple-day trek is by far September, when climbers are most likely to combine favourable weather with relatively empty paths.
The GR20 is one of the best ways of exploring the island, covering great distances in the scented maquis with gorgeous panoramas unfolding in front of your very eyes.
The multiple paths which nowadays form the GR20 were once used by shepherds to move to summer pastures.
The trek is typically done from north to south in 15 days, but alternatively trekkers can start halfway through in Vizzanova for a seven-day adventure.
