Forty years later, Antoine Ciosi's attempt to preserve Corsica's unwritten heritage remains intact.
The Corsican singer has spent his life gathering and recording traditional rhyming songs from the island's remote villages to prevent them from disappearing from the collective memory.
His latest album "A Voce Piena" is a delightful collection of old songs from the island's ancestors, shepherds, farmers and fishermen who once inhabited this land.
Unlike the traditional polyphony, Corsican sung poetry remains somewhat unknown to visitors and is worth exploring while on holiday on the island.
