People with holiday homes should take a "common sense" approach to security, AA has advised.
The insurance company has said that people should make sure they exercise the same precautions they would in the UK when staying in their holiday home.
Ian Crowder, public relations manager at the company, said: "There's a duty of care on every insurance policy."
Research from Zurich revealed that one in ten holiday home owners do not have cover for their second property.
