People with a holiday home should consider extending their UK home insurance policy to ensure their belongings are protected overseas.
The AA has suggested that if people only visit their second property on an occasional basis they do not need to take out a separate contents insurance policy.
Instead, they could look into adapting their existing UK cover which could be used to protect items taken abroad.
"It's a good idea to have an extension on your UK home contents policy which gives cover for your personal property anywhere in the world," said PR manager Ian Crowder.
