Booking early will mean that holidaymakers get the best value cheap flights.
Tom Hall, travel editor at Lonely Planet, has said that being "savvy" when making travel arrangements can help beat the cost of going abroad.
Using online check-in services and only taking hand luggage can also cut down on the extra fees that often add to the price of cheap flights, he advised.
Travelling at "anti-social times" will also mean better value flights for people booking flights to holiday destinations such as Corsica.
