Holidays are "non-negotiable"

11 August 2008

Travellers view holidays as an essential part of modern life, one industry expert has said.

Tom Hall from Lonely Planet has suggested that for most people a break away in the sun is a "non-negotiable thing".

Despite the economic slowdown, tourists will not be deterred from taking holidays, he explained but will instead look to cheaper alternatives and possibly cutting back on short breaks.

Recent figures from the International Air Travel Association (IATA) found world passenger numbers up by 3.8 per cent in June compared to the same month in 2007.
