Ajaccio's Fesch museum

08 August 2008

Fans of Italian paintings cannot afford to miss the Fesch museum in Ajaccio on their holiday to south Corsica.

The museum is number two after the Louvre in Paris in terms of international collections of Italian art.

The museum was founded in 1852 in the Fesch Palace, where Napoleon 1st's uncle cardinal Joseph Fesch, had gathered thousands of paintings and artistic objects.

Entrance to the museum costs €5.35 or €3.80 for discounted tickets and is free for under 15 year olds.

The museum is currently closed for conservation work and is due to reopen next year
