To truly appreciate Ajaccio's iconic red islands or "iles sanguinaires", there is nothing better than a trip to the very tip of Parata peninsula.
Views from the Parata tower are totally captivating. Visitors find themselves surrounded by the deep blue of the Mediterranean Sea and the red islands all aligned to prolong the shape of the peninsula.
There is a parking at the end of the peninsula, but children will certainly favour the little train driving all the way from Ajaccio's town centre.
Boat trips to the red islands can also be organised from Ajaccio or Porticcio.
