Overlooking the gulfs of Ajaccio and Sagone and the Gravona and Prunelli valleys at 600 metres in altitude is Punta Castle, a fine piece of 19th century architecture.
The castle was built for the Duke Jerome Pozzo di Borgo, a relative of Count Charles Andre Pozzo di Borgo, who was a cousin of the Emperor Napoleon 1st.
The monument itself cannot be visited but is still worth a look at.
The side walls of the building are particularly worth seeing as they were built with stones from the Palais des Tuileries in Paris.
Punta castle is located in the village of Alata, nine kilometres north of Ajaccio.
