Corsica has launched its project to map precisely the state of its environment with satellite images to help the fire services tackle blazes more easily.
Corsica's windy and hot weather is sometimes responsible for ravaging fires which can become too dangerous to stop altogether.
Firemen can however direct the fire to extinction by knowing the ground and this is what the new project intends to do.
By drawing a map of the wind, vegetation and ground conditions, firemen can direct the fire to areas deprived of fuel or less prone to blazing and prevent further damage to the forests.
