Overlooking a large plateau with magnificent views over surrounding villages and pine tree forests are the ruins of Cucuruzzu, home to the first inhabitants of Corsica.
The protohistoric village, declared world heritage site by Unesco, is believed to date back to around 1,800 B.C., corresponding to the Bronze Age period.
The most interesting parts of the site are the crafts and storage units which can still be identified.
Cucuruzzu is located near the village of Levie in Alta Rocca, a 45-minute drive away to Porto-Vecchio through the pleasant Ospedale Massif, and about one and a half hours to Ajaccio.
