Corsican water company Kyrnolia has designed a new water treatment which would provide enough water in case the island should witness severe draughts like it did in 2002 in the area around Cape Corsica.
Thanks to modern technology, Kyrnolia has been able to put into place a new system to desalinate water at Macinaggio at the very north of the island, Corse Matin reports.
The new system is a first for France and the company intends to play its role as spokesperson for sustainable development.
It has recently designed a new tool for pupils aged nine and ten to learn more about water treatments and issues related to recycling.
Kyrnolia currently provides drinkable water for one third of the beauty island, its sector extending from Folelli to Bonifacio in the south, employing 216 people in total.
The golf club of Sperone in southern Corsica is another example of Corsica's sustainable development as the station in Sperone can treat up to 280 cubed metres per day which can then be used to water the golf course.
