Calzarellu hippodrome in central Corsica reopened last weekend after major refurbishment works.
A total of 53 horses took part in last Sunday's seven races, and among the most prestigious prizes featured the Charles-Susini prize, the Grand Prix de Ghisonaccia, as well as the Capella prize.
Present at the race meeting was national stud farms manager, M. Laine, and Jean-Baptiste Andreani, president of the Corsican Federation of Hippodromes.
The hippodrome, which is based in Prunelli-di-Fiumorbu, near Ghisonaccia on the eastern coast, is one of the four racecourses present on the island including Casatorra near Biguglia, Zonza and Ajaccio.
Prunelli-di-Fiumorbu's other important landmarks include Mnemosina museum and Migliacciaro church. The village is less than two hours away from the Island of Beauty's capital, Ajaccio.
