Corsica is often praised for its long sand beaches, clear waters and culinary savours, but the island is first and foremost a 'mountain range in the sea'.
It boasts no less than 1,700 summits ranging from 300 to 2,710 m in altitude.
The majority of foreign property investors tend to show more interest in properties near the coast around Calvi in the north or Ajaccio in the south, but more and more buyers are looking into alpine properties around the island's ski resorts.
Corsica's most famous resort is Vergio, with six runs culminating at 1,550 m. The ski season generally lasts from November to March.
Vergio is situated near Evisa and Calacuccia, only 77 km away from Ajaccio and 100 km from Bastia. The area is to become even more accessible from Europe with budget airline EasyJet starting flying to the island from May this year.
Paul Collins of BuyAssociation has explained that alpine properties tend to offer good weather in summer and throughout the year "young people tend to look at investing in alpine regions due to the outdoor sports available and because it is something a little bit different."
