Young Corsicans aware of the environment

13 March 2008

More than 5,000 school children will take part in Corsica's Mare in festa next month.

The event aims to promote respect for the environment and the Mediterranean Sea, by offering pupils workshops onboard a huge ships.

This year's event will take place from April 21st to 24th in various harbours around the Mediterranean such as Bastia and Ajaccio as well as Marseille.

Captain Herve Lopez welcomed onboard everyone taking part in the 15th edition last Monday in Ile-Rousse to discuss this year's activities.

Danielle-Casanova is the SNCM's longest vessel, reaching 176 metres in length. With a total capacity of 2,200 people, the vessel is the perfect place for the annual Mare in festa to take place.

Jean Valere Geronimi, president of the association U Marinu, told Corse Matin: "We want to join up all the Mediterranean shores in a quest for environmental education, and want to make the Mare Nostrum a place for peace, solidarity and culture."
