Sardinia and Corsica have decided to create a partnership aiming to promote sustainable projects on their territories following a meeting in Milan.
The Nuoro province and the town of Bastia have presented their new project as part of the European programme Interreg III, Tourmag.com reports.
Interreg III aims at promoting cooperation between neighbouring regions or countries within Europe to enable the creation of long-lasting and sustainable projects benefiting the whole population. The programme is organised mutually by France and the UK
The neighbouring Mediterranean islands want to promote their territories and enlarge their tourism opportunities by ensuring the preservation of their main assets as prime tourist destinations.
The environment, beauty of the landscapes, gastronomy, culture and history will figure at the top of the countries' priorities.
According to Insee, the most frequent visitors to Corsica in 2007 were the French, followed by Italians and Germans.
The country is hoping to attract more visitors from the rest of Europe to new destinations across arguably the most beautiful island, Kalliste.
