A Corsican ferry company has achieved new records last year as it saw its traffic from France to Corsica increase by 15.5 per cent.
A total of 3.2 million passengers used Corsica Ferries to cross the Mediterranean in 2007, with transport of vehicles and freight up by 11 per cent.
The company's annual revenue for 2007 reached 186.5 million.
According to Mer et Marine, Corsica Ferries manages 61 per cent of traffic to Corsica, compared with rival companies, SMCN and Meridionale which hold 22.9 per cent and 5.8per cent respectively.
The company is also the only one to have increased its departures from Italy, totalling 722,000 passengers last year.
The company has some 14 ferries serving many costal towns in France and Corsica, but also in Sardinia and Italy. It has also set up a new company in partnership with Spanos Maritime & Trading Group to serve the Greek and East Mediterranean area, called Kallisti Ferries.
Ferries from Nice and Toulon in France go to Ajaccio, Bastia, Calvi and Ile Rousse, with a Nice-Bastia trip taking exactly five hours.
