Every May thousands of International cyclists compete on one the most beautiful Mediterranean islands in the Tour de Corse.
Sportsmen enjoy four full days of tough physical challenges in amazing surroundings, as the route follows coastal and mountain routes.
This year's Tour de Corse will take place from May 15th to 18th, with cyclists covering 415 kilometres over the weekend.
The route will start in Ajaccio, going to Sartene, then from Propriano to Porto-Vecchio, and on the third day, competitors will cover 20 challenging kilometres from Ghisonaccia to Aleria.
This is followed by 90 kilometres from Biguglia to Vescovato, after which the last day includes a route from Pietranera to Bastia.
Since its creation in 1920, six Corsicans have won the competition, and last year's winner was Yoni Beauqui from the Vaucluse in France.
Corsica is also hoping to host the Tour de France in 2013. Deputy and president of the Corsican Assembly Camille De Rocca told CMC: "The idea of the Tour de France in Corsica is a dream shared by many."
Corsica is the only part of France that has never hosted the Tour de France, even though former departures included Dublin in 1998 and London last year.
