Aregno in Corsica hosts its annual almond fair every year in August, when the locals enjoy the harvest.
Corsicans are rightly passionate about one of their most famous and enjoyable exports and as a result they make the most of the harvest with a celebration of the almonds in the streets of Aregno.
While most of us might at this time of year be thinking more about chestnuts and winter woollies, the ground in Corsica will already be being prepared for the introduction of the next crop of almonds, which will be harvested in August to the joy of the locals.
Almonds feature heavily in Corsican food all year round so even those heading to the island for a winter break will find plenty of cuisine that is flavoured with almonds.
However, it is the August fair when the food is at its most plentiful, with the fair at Aregno acting both as a cultural event and a working trade fair.
Alongside the chance to buy almonds, there are tasting opportunities, culinary workshops and arts and crafts exhibitions.
