Corsica offers myriad of great walks and treks to its visitors who come each year to explore the beauty of Kalliste.
The villages of Olmi-Cappella, Pioggiola, Vallica and Mausoleo in the Giussani valley, situated an hour away from Calvi, are renowned destinations for trekking, and have also recently been connected to mobile phone networks.
Happy residents joined a meeting, mobiles in hand, to celebrate the arrival of a new antenna.
Three French operators will now provide connections to those villages situated at the edge of the Corsican Mountains.
Before the summer months of 2008, the remaining 16 unconnected villages on the island will enjoy the same facilities.
The Mayor of Mausoleo told Corse Matin: "From now on cattle breeders and hunters can be reached at all time.
"So will the tourists and trekkers who are so numerous in the summer, especially around the drama festival. It is important for their comfort and security."
The Guissani valley is a major destination for trekkers as it encompasses three major summits which are: Monte Grossu, at 1,937 metres, Cima di a Statoghja, 2,305 metres and Monte Prado, 2,390 metres.
The Guissani is often referred to as "the Siberia of the Balagne" by the locals as the area is often snowy.
A Corsican saying tells that Guissani's cool air makes people strong and healthy (l'aria di u Ghjussani face l'omi forti e sani).
The whole area offers a wide range of peaceful way marked walks all set in an astounding landscape.
