If you are looking for a simple holiday amongst friendly locals, this is the place for you. Villa Mathieu is more of a simple house than others but the neighbouring owners are lovely and take great pride in their holiday home.

Beaches

Although you can bathe from the shingle beach at Erbalunga, why not head up the coast to Porticciolo for sand, it is rarely busy. If remote beaches are your thing then follow the chemin des douaniers from Maccinaggio port to plage des Iles before Barcaggio.

Take a boat

The Désert des Agriates is a landscape of wild maquis and rocky cliffs. Take a boat trip to one of its beaches, inaccessible by car, or rent a boat yourself to explore the hidden coastline around the town. Boats from the harbour will take you to the beaches of Saleccia and Lodo (3-6 departures a day and a 30 min trip). You can also get to these beaches on quad bikes (see activities section) that can be hired locally or for the more adventurous try kayaking.

The friendly owners make some guests welcome with a homemade cake, and other specialities.

Villa Description

Set in a rural location with a lovely mature garden of over two acres and neighbouring the owner’s house, Villa Mathieu is a traditionally furnished and simply equipped holiday villa. Built in stone, the house sits in extensive lawned grounds with flowering shrubs, fruit and olive trees giving a sense of privacy. The pool is located close to the house with plenty of lawn to indulge and relax. The house itself is quirky, with a basic kitchen, a large living room with exposed stone walls and a door to the terrace. There is also an interconnecting double bedroom and bunk bedded room with a door to the garden, and a simple bathroom. Decorated in a traditional and somewhat rustic style, Villa Mathieu is a great base for a relaxing holiday in Corsica whether you wish to spend most of your time exploring the surrounding area or simply lazing by the pool. The picturesque mountain village of Oletta is only 5 minutes drive away and there are ample walks around the village offering stunning views across the bay of St Florent and both sides of Cap Corse. The charming waterfront of St Florent with its array of shops, cafés and restaurants can also be reached within a 10 minute drive.
