Sandy Beach
Although there is a small pebble beach in Erbalunga there is a sandy beach of turquoise sea and white sand, situated near the small port of Porticiollo. Its position means that it is rarely busy.
Day trip to Bastia
Bastia is the gateway to the Cap Corse and one of Corsica’s most successful commercial towns, the dramatic landscape of the Cap Corse region surrounds Bastia’s baroque churches and the picturesque Vieux Port (Old Port), which has been left virtually unchanged for centuries. Crumbling houses painted in soft pastels with wrought-iron balconies add further atmosphere, and the mighty Genoese citadel dominates the town’s silhouette. Place St Nicolas, a square lined by palms and leafy plane trees with numerous cafés, bars and restaurants lining its western boundary, is an ideal place to really soak up the Mediterranean atmosphere and is the social hub of the town. Visit on a Saturday to catch the small produce market in the old town.
Tour the Cap Corse
Many people explore the Cap in a single, day-long trip from Bastia but we recommend that you start at Patrimonio near the west coast and drive clockwise so that you are always driving in the inside – the road is winding and narrow and some of the drops can be unnervingly precipitous.
