Explore Ile Rousse
Explore Ile Rousse, during the day, the village square sees countless games of pétanque, whilst people bustle about the market place or enjoy a leisurely stroll round the shops and boutiques. The large village square is lined with palm and plane trees and features a bust of Pascal Paoli, the famous Corsican freedom fighter. Try the Café des Platanes for a drink. There is also a busy local produce market every morning in the Greek style covered marketplace. In the evenings, when the restaurants and cafés fill up, the cobbled streets of the old town come alive and exude a truly Corsican charm. For the more energetic, take the walk past the commercial port, from where there is a path up to the Genoese tower and lighthouse, the Ile de la Pietra.
Beach
Although the nearest beach is at Ile Rousse, why not try Lozara, a fabulous large beach that is hardly ever crowded. Access to the beach is between the turnings for Palasca and Belgodère on the N197 and there is ample car parking. There are two beach cafés towards the western end of the beach. This beach is stepped and shelves quite steeply at the waterline and, in times of rougher seas, the undertow can be hazardous so may not be suitable for less accomplished swimmers and children.
