Balagne Hill villages

Backed by the dramatic mountain landscapes, many of the villages of the Balagne are nearly a thousand years old.  Follow the Strada di L’Artigiani, the Artisans route; a craft trail where you can visit workshops and buy the wares of the local artists.

Le Marché Ile Rousse

Wander the streets of Ile Rousse old town and make sure you take a trip to the market held every morning in a majestic covered market place. The produce is local and fresh and includes fish, vegetables, local honey, charcuterie and cheeses.

Why not take the an easy climb (45mins) up to the ruins of Occi, the path to which leaves the village just behind the Hotel Chez Charles. The village was abandoned when the wells dried up and its occupants relocated to the coast. Lumio’s most famous export, the model/actress Laeticia Casta, has set up a trust fund to renovate the old village in an attempt to improve the fortunes of Lumio. The views from the village are superb.

In our opinion, Casa Acciani is an exceptional dwelling and will no doubt become a firm favourite with our guests very quickly, therefore booking early is essential.
