Calvi Beach
Stretching north eastwards from Calvi is its sand fringed bay, which is backed by the Pinede – a forest of maritime pines (children will love the tree top walk). The beach stretches for 6km, so there’s room for all, even in the busy months of July and August.
Visit Sant'Antonino
Sant ‘Antonino is the oldest inhabited village in Corsica. Perched high above the valley on a granite hilltop, it is visible from miles around and affords 360o views from the top. The circular layout of the vaulted passageways and cobbled streets has changed little over the past 300 years and only 77 inhabitants live here all year round. Well worth a visit.
Best Drive in Europe - Calvi to Piana
The drive to the coast of the Gulf of Porto and the Calanches de Piana is one of Europe's best. The pinnacles and ravines of the red granite Calanches soaring out of beautiful blue seas are framed behind by the jagged peaks of Paglia Orba - the island’s second highest peak. There are daily boat trips from Porto or Calvi, which also visit the breathtaking UNESCO world heritage site of Scandola, with its towering, rugged red granite cliffs that plunge into the azure blue sea. The drive is long and meandering so it is advisable to set off early but it is well worth the detour, do not be surprised to meet a coach or the odd cow or family of pigs on the way and do take your camera. You will need to retrace your steps on the return journey.
