Birds Eye View
From the village of Lumio, there is an easy climb (45mins) up to the ruins of Occi, the path to which leaves the village just behind the Hotel Chez Charles. The village was abandoned when the wells dried up and its occupants relocated to the coast. Lumio’s most famous export, the model/actress Laeticia Casta, has set up a trust fund to renovate the old village in an attempt to improve the fortunes of Lumio. There are fantastic views of the coastline from this spot and you may even catch a glimpse of Chez Marie on the coast.
Beach
This is a fabulous, small beach with white sand and crystal clear turquoise water. It gets very, very crowded in July and August due to the close proximity of one of Corsica's Club Med resorts and parking can be difficult as most of the car parks are reserved for the residents but as you are on the spot, it isn't a problem. There is a small snack bar on the beach, which is open July and August only but there are a selection of cafés at the marina.
Let the train take the strain.
Why not take a trip on the train to Calvi or Ile Rousse. It is a good idea to make note of any beach that catches your eye on your outward journey so that you can disembark on your return trip. There are three fare stages from Calvi to Ile Rousse and a ticket is needed for each stage. A carnet, a book of six tickets, is a return journey. Tickets are valid for any day so if you buy in bulk you can use them whenever you want.
